This intensive course provides development engineers with sound practical knowledge for the efficient development and certification of electric drive systems. From system architecture to safety analysis, you will learn proven methods for accelerated approval.
The 3-day intensive course combines theoretical expert knowledge with practical exercises on real systems. You will learn the most efficient ways to certify electric propulsion systems from the developers of the first EASA-certified electric aircraft. The small group size enables intensive exchange and individual support.
The courses take place in Zweibrücken, online participation via Microsoft Teams is possible. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 12 to ensure optimal learning success.
Day 1 provides fundamental knowledge about electric propulsion systems and their certification according to CS-23. You will learn about the essential components and how they work together.
• Introduction to electric aviation
• Essential components (engines, power electronics, batteries)
• Overview of the architectures of electric propulsion systems and their functions
• Certification processes for electric propulsion systems in general aviation (CS-23)
Day 2 focuses on functional safety and proven analysis methods. You will learn how to systematically identify and assess risks for efficient certification.
• Safety analysis for electrical drive systems
• Functional safety and risk management methods
• Introduction to functional hazard analysis (FHA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)
• Redundancy and safety objectives for electrical drive systems
Day 3 offers hands-on experience with real systems. You will work with the EDCS-4 mainframe and learn about development processes according to DO-178C/DO-254.
• Practical exercises with system components such as the EDCS-4 main computer and power electronics
• Overview of hardware and software development processes according to DO-178C/DO-254
• System verification and test strategies according to aviation standards
